"Much Afraid is a character who was afraid very much. But always in the presence of the shepherd was she no longer afraid. One day she left on a journey to where the shepherd called her to."
Hind's Feet On High Places.
This book is a classic, much like the Pilgrim's Progress. Its about the journey one takes through life. In this case, its the life of Much Afraid and her search for who she really is.
The story brings her through changing terrain and the danger that each change brings her through. Also, the changes affect the lessons she learns about herself and many times, an altar was built where a point of change in the terrain is encountered.
For 10 years in my life I sought to find and refine how I defined WORSHIP. I remember that one day when I was 14, just before C.E (Christian Education) for the Benjamites (Old name for the Youth Ministry) started. I was early to prepare the transparencies for the songs that were needed for that Saturday's worship.
Uncle Boo (Now Pastor Swee Boo) walked in and I told him (more like declared) that I want to be a worship leader (Wahh...at 14 years old??!! Sure Why not!!). Thus began my life of seeking to be like King David, worshipper of God, heart after God's own heart. The reason why I picked up the guitar, to praise God and to write my own songs.
King David worshiped God. And I mean WORSHIP (think... undignified)!!
What his life thought me was to...
- Live my life only for the praise and glory of God.
- That He is the one whose opinion matters
- That my life is my worship unto God, living for the audience of one.
- I learnt to look only to His pleasure and to seek only His joy.
- That God is the source my joy and my satisfaction.
- That God is my rock and my shelter, my strong tower.
- That I am fallen.
- That I am forgiven.
Just like King David.
After 10 years of walking through this terrain, I have learnt many things and in June 2004, I came to the edge of these Woods of Worship. What lies ahead is another chapter in my life. It may not be another 10 years (Maybe 30!!), but I am excited by the prospect of knowing God and loving Him much deeper.
Stay Tuned for Part 2 of Change of Terrain.
